Detroit is strongest when we work together.

For too long, our communities have been divided against each other: East versus West, longtime residents versus new Detroiters, and different communities competing for limited resources rather than building power together. Too often, people are encouraged to fight each other for scraps rather than unite around a shared vision for Detroit’s future.

I believe we are more powerful together.

Inspired by the original American motto E Pluribus Unum (“Out of Many, One”), our campaign is rooted in the belief that Detroit’s diversity is one of our greatest strengths and that we accomplish more when we work together rather than against one another.

​

We may come from different neighborhoods, backgrounds, and experiences, but most Detroiters want the same things: safe communities, affordable housing, economic opportunity, transparent government, and a better future for their families. Lasting progress will only happen if we build coalitions across communities instead of allowing division to define us.

This is not just campaign rhetoric; I have already been doing it for years.

​

Through my leadership roles at Community Development Advocates of Detroit, Coalition on Temporary Shelter, the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission, and numerous community organizations and coalitions, I have spent over a decade bringing people together around shared goals and difficult conversations. I have participated in and organized more than 500 documented community meetings, conferences, public forums, policy events, and neighborhood engagements focused on housing, democracy, economic opportunity, public health, education, and community development.

I believe leadership means showing up, listening, and building relationships across communities — especially when it is difficult. That is the type of leadership I will bring to Lansing.

Detroit does not move forward when communities are isolated from one another. We move forward when we recognize that our futures are connected and that lasting progress requires partnership, trust, and shared purpose.
